As I settle in Chicago for the offseason and attempt to find an offseason job I wanted to reflect upon the accomplishments of the 2008 squad...
Who can forget the night of September 1 when Brad Miller hit for the cycle against Kalamazoo, capping it with a walk-off homer...
Here are some of the league leaders for the Beach Bums from the 2008 season...
Ryan Gehring finished tied for the league lead in shutouts with three...
David Nathanson led the league in ERA at 2.28...On September 2 he came out of the bullpen and threw six innings on two days rest to earn his 12 win of the year...
As a team the Beach Bums pitching staff led the league in ERA at 3.57...Pitching Coach John Sexton guided his pitching staff to a league best and team record 11 shutouts along with the fewest hits (785), the second most saves (24), and the fewest walks (312)...
Closer Jeff Williams set a team record with 15 saves while reliever Ted Gjeldum also set a team record by finishing second in the league with 46 appearances...
Mike Epping and Steve Young each eclipsed the team record for stolen bases with Epping finishing second in the league with 38 steals and Steve Young finishing fifth with 33...
Just some of the things to remember from 2008...Is 2009 here yet??
