Florence 4, Beach Bums 0
The Florence pitching staff shutout the Beach Bums for the second straight night, spoiling a tremendous performance on the mound from Weston Curles in his third start with a 4-0 win...Curles allowed just one run in 6.2 innings while walking one (it was intentional) and striking out four...Florence has thrown three straight shutouts and has not allowed a run in 27 innings dating back to the first game of a doubleheader against Kalamazoo on Sunday...It is a franchise record for the Freedom...Patrick Perry did have two hits for the Beach Bums, his second straight multi-hit game...

Words With Wuerfel
Series #2 of the Homestand
Tonight opens the second of four series on this 12-game homestand and what marvelous weather!! The Florence Freedom bring the best hitting team in the league to Wuerfel Park to tangle with the Beach Bums and the best pitching staff...Lineup for tonight is below...I go into the broadcast tonight with a heavy heart following the loss of a former friend and co-worker who lost his five-year battle with ALS this weekend...He was only 28 and is one of the youngest to have ever contracted the disease made famous by Hall of Famer Lou Gehring which ended his career...He was an inspiration until the end and lasted longer than most have from this horrible disease...

Bullpen Banter: July 19
The bullpen poses lots of questions while not actually having a topic of discussion in our weekly meeting before the game on July 19...The picture is from the first series of the season with Midwest and features four members of Bullpen Banter Jared Locke, Ted Gjeldum, Jeff Williams, and Nick Pepper...It also features the man who came up with the idea Matt Dillard...What was Matt Imwalle doing??
Midwest 6, Beach Bums 4 (10 Innings)
In a game packed with emotion, the Midwest Sliders scored their second straight win over the Beach Bums and in the process handed Traverse City its first extra-inning loss of the season by a 6-4 score...The Beach Bums rallied in the ninth to tie the game with two runs against Midwest closer Earl Oakes and nearly won the game but Mike Goetz was called out on a close play at first (Photo is of Goetz reacting, Manager Jon Cahill arguing, and Hitting Coach Jason Wuerfel leaving after being ejected arguing the play)...Traverse City has still not led in the series...It was Bryan Vickers coming through for the Sliders for the second straight night, hitting his third double in the 10th to give Midwest the win...
