Manager Greg Tagert discusses the opening of the season and joining the American Association in addition to taking your questions...

Pitching Coach Tom Thornton chatted about the change from pitcher to coach as well as some other sports...

Lastly, Director of Marketing Natalie Kirby discusses Opening Weekend...

Rainin' Rangers

UPDATE: Since I can now get back on the blog to upload some things...Here are some photos of Rangers Ballpark in Arlington...
While the team was off on the final day before the seaosn, I went to The Ballpark in Arlington for the Rangers and A's...The game was rained out with the Rangers up 7-0 in the 4th...As I understand, practice was also rained out today for the 'Cats...I will post some photos in a bit...Last reminder...Tagert's MailBag for this week...Send a question to me if you want the skipper to answer for Woody's RailCats RoundUp this week...

Opening Night Explanation

If you missed my broadcast on Friday where I kinda explained what happened in the 8th inning of Thursday's opener, here is what happened during the strange 8th inning of Thursday's game as was explained to me today...A simultaneous call was made by both the base umpire and plate umpire on Mike Massaro's liner...AirHogs third baseman Greg Porter reacted to the home plate call, which was a catch...Adam Klein reacted to the field ump call, which was no catch...Thus with two calls being made, they went with the out on the liner and sent Klein back to first because he was reacting to what he saw in front of him...Hope that makes sense...You can see why I was so confused...Especially since Klein ended up on third while Grand Prairie thought they had a double play...

Woody's RailCats RoundUp Preview

Soooo...Don't forget, 9am on Saturday its time for Woody's RailCats RoundUp...Slated guests for this week are Manager Greg Tagert, Pitching Coach Tom Thornton, Pitcher Derrick Gordon, and Director of Marketing Natalie Kirby...The interview with Greg Tagert will include edition #1 of Tagert's Mailbag...If you have a question for next week, email me...

Worth's LaGrave Field...I took just a few because we will be back here in July, so I will post more then...Reminder, tonight's game from LaGrave Field is being broadcast...Big ups to the Ft. The Rooster

Think of Rube Baker from Major League 2 as it relates to my title...I realize that I hadn't posted details yet on the final roster or the pitching rotation to open the year...Well, how about this being the perfect place...Final cuts were made on Sunday before heading off to Evansville...

Buddy Munroe and Wes Wrenn were placed on irrevocable waivers for the purpose of granting outright release...Carlos Rivas, who is still working his way into the States from Venezuela, will open on the inactive list...Brian Kolb has also been placed on the inactive list to open the year...

SOME DETAILS: According to American Association rules, if you open the season on the inactive list you can be activated at any time...If you are placed on the inactive list during the season you need to miss a minimum of 30 days....In other words, now would be the time to place players on the inactive list...

PITCHING WISE: LHP Derrick Gordon will receive the call for tonight's final exhibition...RHP Scott Shaw, a native of Gurnee, Illinois, will be the opening night starter on Thursday...RHP Jack Frawley goes Friday, RHP Nolan Nicholson on Saturday, and then Gordon on Sunday...That also means that on opening night at U. S. Steel Yard the first hurler will be LHP Derrick Gordon...

Matchups for the opening series with Grand Prairie are as follows...
Thursday: RHP Scott Shaw vs. LHP Greg Smith
Friday: RHP Jack Frawley vs. RHP Scott Drucker
Saturday: RHP Nolan Nicholson vs. RHP Josh Rainwater
Sunday: LHP Derrick Gordon vs. RHP Jae Lung

Lone Star State

Greetings from Texas, The Lonestar State...We arrived around 6:30 am or so...Is it the season opener yet? Now that we are here in Dallas, I am excited...

TRIP FILE
Movies Watched: Liar, Liar; Shooter; Walk Hard (The Dewey Cox Story); The Bronx is Burning
Stops: 3 (Somewhere in Kentucky, and twice in Arkansas)
Total Time from Evansville: Roughly 15 hours or so...

DETAILS:
The trip took a little longer than expected after having to detour around some of the flooding in the Memphia area...The road through was closed...Right around the Kentucky-Missouri border we saw some of the flooding first hand...I will post a few pictures (Myself and a lot of the players couldn't believe how much water there was), but there was a ton of water...

Here are two pictures of the flooding taken from my seat at the front of the bus looking out the window...

Bosse Field

UPDATE: Pictures now added...

I am going to walk around and take some photos in a bit of historic Bosse Field here in Evansville, but first I thought I would recount some crazy stories from my last visit here with Lake Erie during the 2010 season...I will link to some of the old blog posts about this as well so you can read my full accounts fromm last year...

First...I have learned today not to sit in the visiting broadcast booth area...Last year, I was attacked by the window, which literally fell out on me (Fortunately without any breaking glass like I was talking about earlier)...And I almost broke my hand since the windoew fell on me...So I am sitting in the main area for my blogging ability today, avoiding my nemesis...Tim vs. Window...Window always wins...

Speaking of Tim vs...Also while here last year, I got in a fight with the iron at the hotel...Which ruined one of my team polos...Mind you this was on the same visit...Last year's post covers both events...

TIM VS.

Also one of the more weird events in my baseball tenure...A power outage in one light tower...One light tower broke during a game last year, forcing the suspension of the contest...The game was delayed for like two hours while waiting for a crew to come do some work, which led to some pretty cool photo ops...

POWER OUTAGE

A couple years back we also had a scheduled doubleheader on the Friday of a weekend series due to a high school regional at Bosse Field for Saturday...So, we were able to play two games on Friday and then have a Saturday in Evansville off, during which I had the chance to hit the Evansville zoo thanks to Otters Media Relations Director Liz Lewis (at the time)...The random off day day finished with a trip to see The Hangover at an Evansville theater...The actual doubleheader, since it was scheduled rather than a makeup, featured two full nine inning games...

So like I said...Strange things happen in Evansville...

It is also a trip down memory lane for Manager Greg Tagert...Tagert served as the Evansville Manager from 1997-2000, making the playoffs in all four years with two visits to the Frontier League Championship Series...His worst record was 43-41 in 1999, a playoff season...

Pitching Coach Tom Thornton was also an Evansville Otter in 2008 for a time during his playing career before joining the RailCats...Infielder Brian Kolb played for the Otters and their current Manager Andy McCauley last season...
