Deadline Moves

The Frontier League transaction deadline has come and gone...(It was Monday night at 11:59pm for those wondering)...The Beach Bums made a series of moves, signing OF Reed Welker (Pictured) of Saginaw Valley State University, and releasing OF Tycen PoVey and OF Jake Whitesides...Whitesides will miss the rest of the season with a shoulder injury...The release of PoVey opens a slot for David Nathanson, who is eligible to come off of injured reserve on August 17...The rules this season said that in order for a player to come off of injured reserve there has to be an open slot for him by the transaction deadline...

Full Details

Around the league not much noise was made...again a new rule this year...Team's can't rent players, or in other words you can't trade for a guy and then trade him back to his team which was done frequently in the past...The big move involved Southern Illinois and Gateway...Gateway traded Manny Paula (.266, 3HR, 29RBI) to Southern Illinois in exchange for All-Star Willie Keene (.287, 12HR, 37RBI)...Florence was the only other team to make a trade, snagging RHP Andy Schon from the United League...Schon Pitched in seven games for Washington last season...Its hard to deal with other leagues because players need to clear waivers in order to be traded...
