McEneaney Released

RHP Pete McEneaney, the first round choice of the Beach Bums in the 2008 Frontier League Draft, has been released...McEneaney pitched in two games this season and was 0-1 with a 10.80 ERA...He allowed two homers including the game-winner in the 11th inning in the first game of Thursday's doubleheader with Southern Illinois...

For the Beach Bums in 2008, McEneaney pitched in 29 games and was 3-2 with a 3.33 ERA...

With the release, the roster presently stands at 23...The Beach Bums opted to keep 13 pitchers to begin the season, and my guess is that with John Alonso (Who was the fifth infielder) on injured reserve that the Beach Bums will likely add a position player soon to even the roster at 12 pitchers and 12 position players...Stay close to Calderwood's Corner...

Patrick Perry: Between Game Entertainment

Here is the full interview that I had with Beach Bums catcher Patrick Perry (Pictured following a bullpen session with Jason Kiley and pitching coach Roger Mason) which aired between games one and two of the doubleheader on Thursday night with Southern Illinois at Wuerfel Park...

Opening Night Recap

Its a little late but here is all the stuff from opening night, great rally by the Beach Bums but just too little, too late...Particularly in this doubleheader I would love to see the Beach Bums get early leads...Shawn Joy (Pictured) pitched two perfect scoreless innings on opening night...

Kevin Rouch Interview

If you listened to Sunday's afternoon game at Kalamazoo you heard my chat with Frontier League Deputy Commissioner Kevin Rouch...The full interview with him from during the broadcast is below if you missed it...Kevin is a former Frontier League broadcaster...The interview covered a wide variety of topics, among them the start of 2009, former Frontier League players in the Big Leagues, the banning of maple bats, and much more...

Red Wings

Bring your cameras to Wuerfel Park for tonight's doubleheader because you will likely see me donning a Red Wings jersey after losing a friendly bet with first baseman Kyle Maunus, who is an avid Wings fan...He has not told me who's jersey I will wear, saying only that it is a surprise but it would really hurt if it was a Chris Chelios jersey...But, I am a man of my word and a bet is a bet...

I will say this...It was an amazing season for hockey in Chicago and the Blackhawks are back...They are a young team and if at the beginning of the season you would have told me they would be in the conference finals and play three overtime games with Detroit I would have said you are crazy...Look out Detroit...The Hawks are coming! Not this year obviously, but soon enough...Great game by Huet...But still, in 2009, the Wings were the better team...

Doubleheader Day!

There is a first for everything...Last night was the first time that the Beach Bums were rained out at Wuerfel Park...The team had played 154 home games consecutively over the first three plus seasons...

The first ever doubleheader at Wuerfel Park will be today at 6pm...RHP Davidwill start the opener against 2008 Frontier League Pitcher of the Year Ryan Bird for SOuthern Illinois...The second contest will pit RHP Brett Bostelman against LHP Tim Dennehy, who makes his first start of the season for Southern Illinois...Nathanson The Beach Bums however were not the only team to be rained out...The Frontier League schedule today instead of the usual six games has nine contests...Washington and Gateway will play a doubleheader in suburban St. Louis tonight and Rockford will host the Midwest Sliders of Ypsilanti in a twin bill as well...Rockford and Midwest were rained out on Tuesday but opted to play a doubleheader tonight...

Rain has also cause a game over each of the past two evenings to be called after seven innings...Tuesday night it was Kalamazoo and Evansville and last night River City and Florence were shortened...

Go Blackhawks!!!

Had Kalamazoo's broadcaster take this picture for me here in the press box at Homer Stryker Field...Yes, Huet is likely starting in goal, but I have a feeling this thing is going back to Detroit tied 2-2...

Rubber Game in the 'Zoo

After an interesting night around the Frontier League featuring wild comebacks, the Beach Bums find themselves in a six-way tie for first in the East...Today they aim to take the series with the Kings...If you followed Calderwood's Corner during spring training I talked about versatility...You will see that in today's lineup...Gregg Langbehn will talk about it in the Labatt Blue On Deck Show, which begins at 1:45pm...
