First Casualties

After yesterday's exhibition loss to Joliet, Manager Jamie Bennett began the process of dwindling the roster with a pair of cuts...

OF Jeff Harkensee and OF Nate Bryan were let go...

The Boomers roster is now at 34 with six outfielders...Sunday the roster needs to reach 28...You have to figure at least one more outfielder will be let go by the end of the spring, and possibly by the end of the weekend...

Battlin' the Champs

Today is the first of three exhibitions between the Boomers and the Joliet Slammers...I will be teaming with Joliet broadcaster Aaron Morse to provide the action of at least today and tomorrow...There will be some video today as well, well at least tiny video...First pitch is slated for 1:00 p.m. today...

BROADCAST LINK

Joliet is a role model for the Boomers...The Slammers won the Frontier League last season as an expansion franchise taking over for a Northern League team...Sound familiar???

NOTE: Expansion franchises have won two of the last three Frontier League Championships...Joliet in 2011 and Lake Erie in 2009...Sandwiched in the middle was River City in 2010...The Rascals, though not an expansion team, won their first ever title in 2010...River City (Out of suburban St. Louis) became the first team to ever reach three straight title series last season...

RailCat Rewind

After every RailCat game I produced a little one minute recap called the RailCat Rewind...I will be doing something similar with the Boomers and will post them on here...I am open to names for the tiny segment, which will be played a couple times a day on WRMN, the flagship station of Boomers Baseball...

In this segment however I will be rewinding to the events of the Salvi Showdown Series...

First, I will link to articles that were written about the games...Keep in mind these were from RailCat media so they focus on the RailCats...

NWI TIMES: RailCats Fall in Exhibition Opener; Find Shine in Bullpen

NWI TIMES: RailCats Find Offense in Exhibition Tie

Remember I said I recorded a brief conversation with RailCat Manager Greg Tagert talking about Schaumburg and specifically Manager Jamie Bennett??? Well...Here it is...
TAGERT INTERVIEW

This is basically a hodge podge article from the Post Tribune covering the exhibitions, the Hotel RailCat and more...
POST TRIBUNE

Here is an article on the RailCat players staying in the suites at U. S. Steel Yard, something I referenced on yesterday's broadcast if you caught it (If not where the heck were yuh??)
NWI TIMES: Independent Baseball Opens to Hotel RailCat

And here is a photo I snapped on my phone of Hotel RailCat...No sleeping player in this suite like I found in one of the others...

Now on to some generalities...Overall in the two games I was extremely impressed with the pitching, specifically the starters...Frank Pfister also blew me away at third base...First round of lay-offs are coming soon (Rosters must be down to 28 on Sunday) and one thing I know, it is going to be tough to make some decisions...I like what I have seen from the inaugural edition of the Boomers...

Later...Possible even this afternoon depending on how long today's exhibition takes, I will post some updates on other teams around the league...

Salvi Showdown Series: Part Deux

Weird to be back in the old stomping grounds...Construction was bad on the way in...Glad I'm not making that drive any longer but I do thank Ed McCaskey (SHOUT OUT!!!!!) and RailCat 2B (Who is in the starting lineup today Mr. McCaskey) Brian Kolb for rotating who was driving last year from Wheaton...Also a mad shout out to Dave Salvi (Yup I went there again...) I am a huge 90's rock fan and while Stone Temple Pilots was rocking me on the just over an hour drive (Why is it that I see a hundred police cars on 355 but none on 294??? Anyhow Miley Cyrus came on...Party in the USA!!! It was the song Dave and I used to have dance battles on the walkway...Woot woot!!!

Random sidebar...The suites here at U. S. Steel Yard have been turned into a hotel for the players...I took a picture and will post it soon...For the record, I passed another suite where a pitcher (I think it was yesterday's starter) was asleep...I did not snap a photo of that one...
