RailCats at Kansas City T-Bones: May 19, 2011

So here's the deal with tonight...Win, and its a winning road trip...Lose, and its headed home with a 3-4 record...I get the feeling that everyone is eager to put last night's loss behind them, and the great thing about baseball is the ability to have a game almost every night...The dilly yo yo for me is that I am feeling under the weather, though perhaps better than last night but I think now I sound sick, something you couldn't have necessarily noticed yesterday...Also, Scott Shaw still has my tape recorder so we will see how the pregame goes tonight (He's working on The Shaw Report for this week's Woody's RailCats RoundUp)...Also, the photos of CommunityAmerica Ballpark will either be posted tomorrow or perhaps on the bus ride back depending on how productive I feel...A little bit of a different look to the lineup tonight...Kansas City throws a familiar name, but a guy who also had control problems in his first go-round...Lineups, game notes, and preview are below...Let's end this on a high note...I'm fired up (Literally) for the opener tomorrow...

T-Bones 10, RailCats 3

So last night was one of those nights...From the outset...The T-Bones offense was clicking on all cylinders...They are going to be a tough lineup to get out this year...The T-Bones are currently second in the American Association in hitting, tied for the lead in homers, haven't allowed a homerun yet, rank third in stolen bases, and are tied for third in runs scored...18 hits last evening from seven different individuals with six collecting more than one hit...Ryne Reynoso settled in nicely and Kansas City walked away with the most lopsided win of the season to date...But that is saying something...The first five games of the trip were all extremely close games...Below is last night's highlights, plus the box and game recap...

Sunday Stuff

I will be posting the highlights and recap of Sunday's game shortly along with today's game notes for the series opener in Kansas City, but I wanted to back up a bit...Scot Drucker, who pitched in game two on Friday, is a blogger as well...His entry regarding the pace of game issue that led to three RailCat ejections on Saturday brings up some good points...

DRUCKER'S BLOG POST

Now, having said that...I was told when I was talking about this last night with my friend who is the Royals pre/post host, that even in the MLB, umpires time between innings...I watched a little closer and did notice that the third base umpire pulled out a stopwatch every half inning...

Royal Disaster

What do baseball broadcasters do on off days? Why go to more baseball games of course...For the second time on this road trip I took in a MLB game in another city, making my first ever visit to Kauffman Stadium in KC...Some pictures are below of the Royal Disaster...Vin Mazzaro allowed a KC pitching record 14 runs, something that had only been done twice previously in MLB history...Ouch! In a 19-1 shellacking at the hands of the AL Central leaders...

May 14 Recap

I think a lot can be said in a loss in how you lose...Last night, the RailCats did not go down without a fight...Here are the highlights from the game in addition to the game recap...

RECAP

HIGHLIGHTS
Greg Porter's sacrifice fly in the first inning opens the scoring

Toddric Johnson made a running catch in the second

Guillermo Martinez tripled to push the edge to 2-0

Toddric Johnson makes things interesting in the ninth

Jon Hunton settled down enough to post the final out but not without some drama

May 15: RailCats at Grand Prairie

A new look to the RailCats lineup for the final game of the series with Grand Prairie, and decidedly different with Lou Ott on the way to Winnipeg...It's on to Kansas City afterwards...Hopefully the trip out is better than the trip in...The second bus of RailCats just arrived carrying most of the position players...There is a huge Mexican music festival going on in the grounds (Festival de Mayo) and traffic took an hour to get into the ballpark...The second bus was detoured around the facility...Cars are literally from wall to wall on the grass included, and an hour before the game I can count on one hand the number of fans who are here...

First Roster Move

The RailCats have made the first roster move of the 2011 season today...Infielder Lou Ott, a returning RailCat from the 2010 season who posted two hits in Friday night's win over Grand Prairie, was traded to Winnipeg...Winnipeg is in the North Division of the American Association (RailCats are in the Central but face Winnipeg on the next roadtrip)...In exchange, the RailCats received cash considerations and a player to be named...

Ott heads to Winnipeg with the opportunity to take over as the starting third baseman...Winnipeg's starter, Amos Ramon, tore his ACL during Thursday's season opener and has been lost for the season...

To counter the move, Brian Kolb was taken off the inactive list to keep the RailCats at 23 players...
