New Pitcher Joins the Fray



Shawn Joy, a left-handed pitcher who spent time in the Yankees' system last season, has signed to play for the Beach Bums in 2009...

Hailing from Topeka, Kansas, Joy signed as a free agent with the Yankees following his college career at Southern Illinois University and spent last summer with the Gulf Coast Yankees, a rookie league team...His scouting report on The Baseball Cube lists his control rating at 91...His first season as a pro, Joy led the team in appearances with 15 and tossed 19.2 innings, posting four saves and a 1-1 record with a 3.66 ERA...

Joy was a starter at Southern Illinois and threw over 90 innings in each of his two seasons after transferring from Cloud County Community College...

He will hold Rookie-2 status in the Frontier League this season...
