Goetz Headed to Rockford


Former Beach Bums outfielder Mike Goetz has inked a 2009 contract with the Rockford RiverHawks...Goetz was released in spring training by the Pirates after signing near the end of 2008...

Goetz played in the Carolina League with the Lynchburg Hillcats, the High-A affiliate of the Pirates for the last month of the 2008 season...He appeared in 12 games primarily as a center fielder after spending most of 2008 in left for the Beach Bums...He posted seven hits in 34 at bats for the Hillcats...Goetz was 2-for-3 in his debut with Lynchburg...

Goetz was a Frontier League East Division All-Star starter in left field for the Beach Bums last season and hit .314 on the season with 14 doubles and 22 RBI...He dominated Frontier League pitching early in the season, owning an average of .537 in May, and sporting a .344 mark at the All-Star break...Goetz posted three games with four hits to match the single game team record...No player has posted that many four-hit games in team history...He also stole a career high 22 bases...Goetz was the the third player to be signed from the Beach Bums to affiliated ball last season...

Goetz will be an LS-2 by Frontier League standards in 2009...
